Getting a Data SIM for Your Dashcam

What you need: a data-only SIM card. Your dashcam uses data to connect to the Cloud — it does not make calls or send texts, so a phone plan is not required. When getting a SIM from your carrier, ask for a data-only SIM (sometimes called a "tablet SIM" or "IoT SIM") in nano size.

Before you buy, two checks with your carrier can save a return trip:

  • Confirm the carrier supports IoT devices like dashcams — some carriers restrict SIMs to specific device types.
  • Ask whether the device IMEI needs to be registered on their system before the SIM will work.
