Long-time BlackVue user and Honolulu resident Kaehu caught this incredible footage on his BlackVue DR750X-2CH LTE Plus dash cam (latest version available here, and 4K version here).

Burning car

As Kaehu was driving on the highway, he spotted a dark cloud of smoke rising in the sky from far away. As he approached, he was able to make out the source of the smoke: a blazing car on the side of the road.
What he was not prepared for, however, was the sudden blast that occurred as his vehicle got closer.

As I got near it something in the engine exploded. As I passed the car I saw another car with people outside, hopefully no one got injured.

A huge blast

The blast sent burning matter flying in all directions and took the driver of the closest car aback. We can see that vehicle swerving dangerously to the left in reaction and we would be hard-pressed to blame them for it. Fortunately, they didn’t hit any other car and promptly rectified their trajectory.

Further up the road, people could be seen standing on the emergency lane outside of their vehicle.
The burning vehicle didn’t seem to have been involved in a crash, however, according to the dash cam owner, so we can only assume its occupants left before things got really bad.
