BlackVue user Fabrizio was able to help his neighbor out thanks to this surprising dash cam footage. The Parking Mode video captured on his DR900X-2CH (find the latest version of this 4K dash cam here) was instrumental in finding the culprit of this unusual hit-and-run.

Slowly unfolding hit-and-run

In the clips shared by Fabrizio, we can see a car slowly getting out of a residential parking lot space and accelerating towards a van parked in front of the BlackVue user’s car.

I was inside my house when I heard a loud noise and noticed that a car had crashed into my neighbor’s van. I couldn’t initially understand how it happened, but upon reviewing the video from my dash cam, I saw that the delivery driver had left his car without engaging the handbrake or putting it in gear. This caused damage to another vehicle.

Video instrumental in finding the culprit

In spite of the loud bang, it took the delivery driver quite a while to get back to his vehicle (cf sped up part of the video). The obvious damage did not seem to bother him, however. He just took off after only a glance, as if nothing had happened. He definitely didn’t take the time to acknowledge the damage he had caused.

Luckily, I was able to capture the incident on video because I have an extra battery for parking surveillance, and it all happened while my car was stationary.

According to Fabrizio, his neighbor contacted the police and insurance company. Thanks to the video, they were able to recover the cost of the repair. The offending driver was found and held accountable for his action. Without the video, he would probably have gotten away with it.
