Oyu Tolgoi is a copper-gold mine in the Umnugovi aimag of Mongolia, approximately 550 kilometres south of the capital Ulaanbaatar. It holds one of the largest high-grade copper deposits in the world.
Oyu Tolgoi LLC is a Mongolian company, jointly owned by Erdenes Oyu Tolgoi LLC on behalf of the Government of Mongolia (34 per cent) and Canadian-based Turquoise Hill Resources (66 per cent). Turquoise Hill Resources is listed on the Toronto and New York Stock exchanges. Rio Tinto has a 50.8% interest in Turquoise Hill. Rio Tinto also manages Oyu Tolgoi on behalf of the partnership. What problems did Oyu Tolgoi need to solve?
As a company, Oyu Tolgoi LLC places safety above everything else. However, the mining activities are carried on 365 days a year, 24h a day.
They needed a solution that allows them to easily manage their fleet of trucks day and night—including 290-tonne Komatsu machines—and most importantly, they needed the ability to monitor the safety and fatigue of their drivers at all times.

How did Oyu Tolgoi LLC integrate with BlackVue?
Oyu Tolgoi LLC first started equipping their vehicles with BlackVue dashcams in 2018.
BlackVue dashcams are installed in mining haul trucks (e.g. Komatsu 930E), logistics trucks and other vehicles.
So far, Oyu Tolgoi LLC has been using over 350 dashcams including DR590-2CH, DR590X-2CH IR, DR900S-2CH IR and DR750-2CH LTE.
The company started using BlackVue Fleet Tracking—BlackVue’s dashcam-based tracking solution—in December 2019. Their Fleet Plan currently covers over 110 vehicles.
Oyu Tolgoi LLC has been using BlackVue dashcams since 2018. They have outfitted a wide range of their vehicles with BlackVue dashboard cameras, from excavators to haul trucks as well as more conventional vehicles.
For a portion of their vehicles involved in the most critical tasks, Oyu Tolgoi LLC decided to use BlackVue Fleet Tracking. Using a third-party Wi-Fi hotspot, or, in the case of DR750-2CH LTE, a SIM card, they were able to access and manage over 100 dashcams easily.
Nowadays, BlackVue is totally integrated in Oyu Tolgoi LLC’s workflow. BlackVue Fleet Tracking lets them check daily that the cameras are operating normally, oriented correctly and unobstructed. In case of an incident, evidence footage can be backed up remotely.
